rethinking our beauty practices

rethinking our beauty behaviors - Beauty Swab

Did you know your under eye skin is as thin as a tissue? According to Isabelle Villeneuve, R&D Director – Head of the Valeant International Center of Excellence in Skincare and an international expert in skincare (Villeneuve, 2011):

"The eye contour area is the most fragile area of our face. The skin in this area is extremely thin and strained, with few sebaceous glands and sweat glands.
The epidermis around the eye is approximately 0.04 mm thick, compared to 0.1 to 0.15 mm on average on the rest of the body, and the dermis is less than 0.5 mm thick, while in general, it varies between 1 and 4 mm elsewhere. Meanwhile, the area boasts 22 muscles, 14 of which are used every 10 seconds.
The eyelids move with each of our expressions and bat an average of 10,000 times per day to evenly distribute the tear fluid on the eyeball. This perpetual motion in such a delicate area can lead to the formation of wrinkles and fine lines" (Villeneuve, 2011)."

And when we think about how much we touch and pull at our facial skin as we touch up our makeup or apply beauty products, it's no surprise our beauty practices can also impact fragile skin areas that are more prone to fine lines and wrinkles.

We believe it's important to be kind to our skin. We created b-swabs® with the idea that more efficient touch ups would benefit the fragile eye area and the hope that having a tool specifically designed for this purpose would also serve as a reminder to ditch our harsh habits of wiping, pulling, and tugging at our facial skin. While using b-swab does not result in avoidance of wrinkles or fine lines, taking a more intentional approach to your beauty routine can have great rewards.

Some of the features we love for a gentler beauty touch up experience, include:

  • Soft microfiber layer that's more efficient at picking up trace makeup
  • Cushioned foam core for a gentler experience
  • Efficient used dry or with just water
  • Longer handle to reduce pressure asserted on skin
  • No lose fibers to promote better eye health
  • Better product pickup and absorption to enhance precision in hard to reach areas and reduce product wastage
